Since its establishment in 1999, Aloha Street
has promoted the local community through our media activity.
Our efforts were aimed at boosting Hawaii tourism for the local
economy. As Aloha Street gained more name recognition, we started
thinking of ways in which we could use our name to contribute
further to our Hawaii home. It is with this intention that we
launched the Aloha Street Nature Project in November of 2005.
It is a charity program that will raise donations in support
of local conservation efforts through the sale of Hawaii-themed
merchandise and volunteer activities.
The seed of the project came from an e-mail of a Japanese reader
who inquired if there were any volunteer programs in Hawaii
that she could participate in. This spawned an idea to establish
a "win-win-win" program in which Aloha Street would create and
sell educational materials and volunteer opportunities to those
interested visitors, with a portion of the proceeds donated
to Hawaii's conservation organizations. A calendar, "The Heart
of Hawaii," became our first fund-raising product. |
