HONOLULU,HI (2006) - Aloha Street,Hawaii's top-rated
Japanese travel media company succeeds in appealing to Japanese
tourists with its savvy media loop which, includes Japanese-language
magazine Aloha Street and its partner Web site, aloha-street.com.
In 1999, Aloha Street's parent company, Wincubic, launched aloha-street.com,
which began with Yellow Page-type content featuring information
on hotels, shopping, and activities in Hawaii. The Web site,
which now garners 2.5 million page views per month, contains
a testimonial section where visitors can share their own experience
of Hawaii in a community forum based on a crafted points system.
The data page boasts over 6,000 listings and familiarizes the
visitor with not only Hawaii, but with the Aloha Street format,
which makes the transition to the magazine easy.
Encouraged by the success of the Web site, Aloha Street took
over Aloha Street magazine in 2000 (it was previously owned
by Obun Printing). Aloha Street magazine quickly took the lead
as the most popular Japanese-language media by changing its
look and content, as well as increasing its page count from
60 to 180. The free magazine now has the look of a luxury publication
and features creative editorial so appealing that many Japanese
subscribe to it once they return to Japan. Aloha Street magazine
is a quarterly publication with an annual circulation of 500,000
and is distributed in over 100 locations on Oahu including street
racks, hotels, shopping centers, and tourist trolleys.
Aloha Street also boasts an online newsletter with 60,000 subscribers
and an online, quarterly survey, which taps into the perceptions
of Japanese tourists. The company then shares the results with
local businesses to strengthen Hawaii's visitor industry.
In Nov.2005, Aloha Street launched the Aloha Street Nature Project,
a charity program raising donations in support of local conservation
efforts through the sale of Hawaii-themed merchandise and the
future development of volunteer activities. A portion of the
proceeds will benefit the Outdoor Circle and the Hawaii Nature
Center. |
