Aloha Street Launches the Aloha Street Nature Project

Aloha Street announces the launch of the Aloha Street Nature Project, a charity program that will raise donations in support of local conservation efforts through the sale of Hawaii-themed merchandise and the development of volunteer activities. The project kicks off with the sale of a 2006 calendar available online and through select Japanese retailers. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Outdoor Circle and the Hawaii Nature Center.

"Aloha Street has discovered that the Japanese tourist is eager to participate in preserving the beauty that brings them to Hawaii time after time, making the calendar a perfect tool to support the local community and the tourism industry simultaneously," said Jim Ueno, president and chief editor, Aloha Street.

"We are very excited to be one of the beneficiaries of the inaugural endeavor of the Aloha Street Nature Project," said Greg Dunn, executive director, Hawaii Nature Center. "We believe the project to be a worthy one that will continue to benefit Hawaii on several levels."

In line with eco-friendly element of the project, the calendar is printed on 100 percent recycled paper with soy ink and packaged in a 100 percent recycled paper envelope. It features striking photographs of the land and sea of Hawaii and costs $18. The calendar will be available for purchase in Hawaii in December.

"We hope to raise $10,000 for the beneficiaries and to establish Aloha Street's commitment to maintaining the natural beauty of Hawaii," said Ueno. "However, the calendar is just the first product of what we plan to achieve with the Aloha Street Nature Project."
